What is Kitesurfing?

Known only since 1999, kitesurfing has, in just a few years, captivated millions of athletes worldwide. Born as a branch of surfing, kitesurfing harnesses the power of the wind, allowing you to glide on the waves with your board, pulled by a kite—a kite in English—which is controlled by a control bar connected to the kite by thin lines, between 22 and 27 cm long.

Still considered a dangerous sport and still viewed with suspicion, kitesurfing offers truly unique thrills and, with its simplicity, manages to touch the hearts and souls of those who practice it. For lovers of the sea, boats, and air, it’s the ideal sport for the simplicity that only contact with the forces of nature can provide. How to get started?

There are numerous specialized schools along the entire Italian coastline where you can take lessons taught by FIV and IKO certified kite instructors  , who guide students throughout the year with practical and theoretical courses. Thanks to the moderate temperatures, even in winter you can kitesurf while wearing a thicker wetsuit, without experiencing any temperature drops. The Punta Pellaro spot in Calabria , due to its windy nature, offers wind for kitesurfing year-round

A question of security

Many years have passed since kitesurfing pioneers braved the waves with makeshift equipment, allowing themselves to be swept away by the force of the sea without adequate support. Today, safety standards have reached very high levels, ensuring 100% safety , allowing even the youngest children to try this sport.

Wearing appropriate gear to protect the parts of your body most exposed to water impact, such as your ribs, back, and head, is the first rule to avoid violent injuries. Maintaining a safe distance from potential obstacles such as boats, rocks, or swimmers is another factor not to be underestimated—no less than 50 meters. FROM 0 TO THE FIRST EDGE

If you have never tried kiting but would like to learn it from us - it is the right place. IKO/FIV instructors with walkie-talkie and support rescue boat are at your disposal.

INTERMEDIATE LEVEL

Thanks to the side-on shore direction of the wind and the service boat, at Free Spirits you will find perfect conditions to set the upwind or try the first jumps.

FREESTYLE & PRO STYLE

In Punta Pellaro you will never find "a washing machine". Even with very strong winds the sea is regular and allows for excellent freestyle or big air training in complete safety.

FOIL E WINGFOIL

Thanks to the deep water from the first few meters of the shoreline, you'll feel great with foils at FSkite. Furthermore, if you want to learn WingFoil, our instructors are at your disposal.
